The Choice of Helping…

The choice to help another person is one of the most powerful decisions we can make. True help should never be given with the expectation of something in return, or as a silent agreement that a favour will be owed. Instead, helping should come from a place of genuine gratitude a deep understanding that we are in a position to make a difference, and that alone is a gift.

When we offer our support, our kindness, or our time, let it be because we truly want to, not because we feel obligated or because we anticipate future rewards. The act of helping someone should be rooted in compassion and the sincere desire to lift someone out of a difficult situation. It’s about giving freely, knowing that our actions might improve someone’s life, even if only for a moment.

Sadly, it’s all too common for help to come with strings attached a silent contract that one day the favour must be repaid. This mindset can create tension, resentment, and turn what should be a beautiful act of kindness into a transaction. I’ve witnessed how this can negatively impact relationships and even lives.

That’s why I encourage everyone: when you help someone, do it with pure intentions. Let your motivation be kindness, not expectation. Trust that the good you put into the world will return to you in unexpected ways, especially when you need it most. Helping others with an open heart creates a ripple effect of positivity and trust.

Over the years, I’ve found that living with this mindset brings true peace. I never worry about being owed or owing others, because every favour I offer comes from a place of sincere gratitude and compassion. If more people approached helping this way, the world would be a brighter, more harmonious place.

So, the next time someone asks for your help or you find yourself in a position to support someone give freely, with no hidden motives. Let your kindness be genuine and your intentions pure. That is the true essence of helping: the simple, beautiful act of caring for another, expecting nothing in return.
