The Root of Success…
Some people say talent is a gift you either have it or you don’t. I don’t always agree. I believe talent can be nurtured over time: you work, you practise, you graft, and you become better at what you believe you’re good at, or what you want to be good at.
People usually see the success, the fame, and the glorious moments. What they don’t see are the roots how deep they go. They don’t see the nights of persistence, the tears, or the fear that you still might not succeed. At some point, most of us experience imposter syndrome. Even when we appear confident and strong in our professional lives, there can be a side of us that believes we’re not good enough.
I know many talented people some very successful who don’t even see themselves that way. They simply see themselves as people who love what they do, while everyone else calls it success. And that kind of success is often built slowly. Over a long period of time, as we get older, we can grow into it.
Don’t get me wrong some people are abundantly gifted from the start. But have you noticed that when talent comes naturally, some people don’t work hard, because they know they’ve been given it. Meanwhile, someone who feels less gifted may work much harder to achieve what they want, because they know they have to be ten times better just to get the role, sing the song, or earn the opportunity.
There is also a humility that draws people to you. Many people are attracted to success because they want to be part of what someone has become, without realising the hardness and groundedness beneath it.
The root of success is not easy or pleasant. It can be lonely, secluded, and paralysing. It can even cost you your freedom, because everyone wants a piece of what you’ve become. And yet, sometimes a gift is also a sacrifice. You may be the sacrifice for the gift or the gift may be the sacrifice of you. I’ll let you decide which it is, and whether you choose to see it in a positive light.
