When We Find Ourselves…
Finding ourselves is not a single event but a quiet, stubborn remembering. We chase reflections in mirrors and in the eyes of others, hoping to glimpse a truth that feels stable and true. Yet the question lingers: how do we know we have found ourselves? Perhaps it’s when we stop applying others’ labels to our bones and start listening to the pulse that keeps us honest.
It’s in the moment when the noise around us softens enough for our own voice to be heard not the voice that demands approval, but the voice that simply says, “I am here. This is who I am becoming.”
Our sense of self is braided with what came before us. Our parents, grandparents, and ancestors carried traumas they didn’t have time or safety to release. Those wounds travel, sometimes invisibly, shaping energy and manifesting as pain in our bodies long after the original hurt has passed. Yes, darkness may seem to arrive with greater ease than light, especially for those of us who bear the burdens of impostor syndrome.
Yet beauty is not a verdict handed to us by others; it is a practice we begin with ourselves. When we recognize our own worth the original, uncopyable spark that survives every wave of doubt we illuminate the people around us, often without meaning to. The true work of finding ourselves is a quiet commitment: to know ourselves with honesty, to heal what we can, and to let our growing authenticity give others permission to seek their own truth.
